Tens of thousands of people impacted by Hurricane Earl

MIAMI – Several members of Cross International headed to Belize Sunday to deliver medicine, medical supplies and food to those in need in Belize following Hurricane Earl.

The Category 1 hurricane caused extensive damage in the Central American country, impacting tens of thousands of people.

"This specific trip, we are providing the medicine and medical supplies for thousands of people, as well as the 100,000 to 150,000 meals," Cross International Senior Director Mark Mosely said. "We will be here in this particular place for about seven days, and then we will just be coming in periodically to work alongside our partners and conduct an evaluation about what the additional needs are going forward, because we are committed to the people of Belize in the long run."

Some areas of Belize have two to four feet of standing water left behind from the hurricane.

While there have been no reported deaths, homes were severely damaged, and there is a lack of food and potable water throughout the country.
