Mail deliveries to end at noon as Hurricane Matthew approaches

Post offices to close at noon as well

MIAMI – After vowing to remain open as Hurricane Matthew bears down on South Florida, the U.S. Postal Service has announced that all mail deliveries will end at noon Thursday.

Post offices will also close at noon.

The postal service originally said it would remain open and and that its emergency management team would continue to monitor the storm. However, the decision was made to close early.

U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Debbie Fetterly said mail service is suspended from Miami-Dade County north to St. Lucie County. Fetterly said all mail carriers have been instructed to return to their respective post offices no later than 1 p.m.

She said mail delivery will continue in the Florida Keys.
