Surfer hydroplanes car off road into Intracoastal off Hillsboro Beach

33-year-old driver not injured

HILLSBORO BEACH, Fla. – A surfer was heading to Deerfield Beach to catch some waves Thursday afternoon when she hydroplaned her car off the road into the Intracoastal Waterway, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 4 p.m. in the 900 block of HIllsboro Mile.

Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the driver told authorities that she was surfing in Pompano Beach and she was on her way to catch "better waves" in Deerfield Beach.

The 33-year-old woman was not injured.

Jachles said the crash is an example of why drivers need to heed authorities' warning to stay off the roads.
