Tropical Storm Franklin forms in Caribbean Sea

Franklin not expected to impact South Florida


PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Tropical Storm Franklin formed late Sunday night in the Caribbean Sea, according to the National Hurricane Center. 

As of 5 a,m. Sunday, Franklin was moving west-northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

Franklin is not expected to impact Florida. 


A tropical storm warning has been issued in Mexico from Chetumal northward and around the Yucatan Peninsula to Campeche.

In Belize, a tropical storm watch has been issued from Belize City northward.

Rainfall of about three to six inches are expected with this system, with isolated amounts of rain that could reach a foot through Wednesday.

These rains could produce flash floods, the National Hurricane Center said.
