PLANTATION, Fla. – Broward County Public Schools will remain closed through the rest of the week.
Superintendent Robert Runcie said Tuesday that the goal is to reopen schools Monday, pending the restoration of electricity.

Runcie said about 52 percent of the county's schools have had power restored.
"That's the biggest challenge that we have," Runcie said. "We've been working very closely with Florida Power & Light, and we know that they're working as hard as they can."
Schools have been closed since last Thursday in advance of Hurricane Irma, which pummeled much of the state Sunday with heavy winds and knocked out power to millions of customers.
