What's open, closed in South Florida due to Hurricane Dorian

MIAMI – As Hurricane Dorian looms in the Atlantic Ocean and within striking distance of South Florida, here is a list of closings throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

AIRPORT, PORT, RAILWAYS

  • Miami International Airport remains open and is monitoring the storm. Airport will shut down once tropical storm winds are recorded.
  • PortMiami has reopened for all business.
  • Brightline suspended service Monday. All Brightline stations, including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Virgin MiamiCentral, will close until train service resumes.  
  • Tri-Rail service will resume a regular weekday service on Wednesday

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

  • Miami-Dade courts are still scheduled to be open Tuesday, Sept. 3, but weather may change those plans.
  • The South Florida Water Management District will temporarily close all SFWMD-managed land and all land managed in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to public access at 5 p.m. Friday. 
  • City of Miami regularly-schedule Solid Waste services, including garbage pickup, recycling and bulky waste pickup conclude at close of business Friday and no scheduled service will be provided until further notice.
  • Eleventh Judicial Circuit closed court operations at 3 p.m. Friday, August 30.
  • Miami-Dade Animal Services is open Saturday.

SCHOOLS

SHELTERS

  • No evacuation orders have been ordered. Shelters will be opened once officials declare evacuations are necessary.

PARKS

  • City of Miami Parks & Recreation facilities will operate as normal until close of business on Saturday.
  • All parks, playgrounds and pools in Miami Beach will be closed beginning at noon Saturday.
  • City of Aventura parks are currently closed.
  • Jungle Island will close Saturday through Tuesday, Sept. 3

MEDICAL FACILITIES

  • Baptist Health facilities that will be closed Tuesday:

•    Wellington Diagnostic Center
•    Bethesda Diagnostic Center
•    Miami Beach (Diagnostic & Endoscopy)
•    Northpoint Surgery Center
•    Baptist Eye Surgery Center
•    Flagler Endoscopy Center
•    South Palm Surgery Center

  • All Pediatric Associates offices will be closed Sunday through Tuesday. Doctors, however, will be available to patients needing medical care on the KidzDocNow app.

EVENTS

  • Big Cypress National Preserve visitor centers and administrative facilities will be closed starting Saturday. Backcountry and hunting access into the Preserve will remain open.
  • The COLORS Presents: R&B Only event at The Fillmore Miami Beach has been rescheduled for Sept. 20. All tickets will be honored on the new date.
  • The Miami Seaquarium will be closed Tuesday and plans to reopen Wednesday.
  • Jungle Island will reopen Wednesday.

BROWARD COUNTY

AIRPORT, PORT, RAILWAYS

  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport closed at noon Monday. It reopened at noon Tuesday.
  • Palm Beach International Airport closed Monday. It was scheduled to reopen at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Port Everglades has reopened.
  • Brightline will suspend service on Monday. All Brightline stations including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Virgin MiamiCentral will close until train service resumes.  
  • Tri-Rail service will resume a regular weekday service on Wednesday
  • Lockdown process for all drawbridges in Broward begins at Noon Saturday. By 8 p.m., ALL drawbridges will be locked down until further notice.
  • All Miami-Dade County marinas to close Sunday at sundown until further notice.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

  • All Broward County government offices closed through Tuesday.
  • Broward County Judicial Complex closed through Tuesday.
  • The South Florida Water Management District will temporarily close all SFWMD-managed land and all land managed in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to public access at 5 p.m. Friday.
  • All Broward County library locations will be closed starting Saturday until further notice. Book drops will be locked and late fees will not be charged during emergency weather closures.

SCHOOLS

SHELTERS

  • Broward County will be opening three special needs adults shelters and one pediatric special needs shelter at 2 p.m. Sunday. Broward County is still accepting applications for special needs residents. To register, call the Emergency Hotline at 311 or 954-831-4000

MEDICAL FACILITIES

  • All Pediatric Associates offices will be closed Sunday through Tuesday. Doctors, however, will be available to patients needing medical care on the KidzDocNow app.
  • The following Broward Health locations and services will be closed through Tuesday:

      Broward Health International
      Broward Health Physician Group Offices
      Broward Health Urgent Care Centers
      Broward Health Weston
      Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center
    • In the event of a hurricane warning, the Maternity Place at Broward Health Medical Center and Broward Health Coral Springs will accept women who are 38 (or more) weeks pregnant or have been identified as having a high risk pregnancy. Patients must be pre-registered for delivery at these locations to be accepted during a hurricane.

EVENTS

  • Igloo Cooler Festival in Fort Lauderdale scheduled Sunday at Snyder Park has been canceled.
  • Fort Lauderdale's Sunday Jazz Brunch on the Riverwalk has been canceled.
  • Firecracker Criterium races in Fort Lauderdale on Monday have been canceled.
  • Summer Music in the Park series scheduled for Saturday in Fort Lauderdale's Hortt Park has been canceled. 
  • Chris Brown's INDIGOAT Tour at the BB&T Center has been canceled.
  • TRIM outreach event scheduled for Tuesday, September 3 at Milander Center has been canceled. 

PARKS

  • Broward County regional and neighborhood parks, nature centers and natural areas open Friday. Campgrounds, rental halls and water parks will be closed starting Saturday.
  • Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale will be closed Sunday, September 1 and Monday, September 2. There will be no dog park or dog swim available on those days.
