May 23: Memorial Day weekend brings heat, limited showers and elevated rip current risk to South Florida

This Memorial Day weekend will feature limited showers and steamy temperatures.

Watch for a few passing morning showers moving onshore Sunday. The showers will move quickly and give way to inland storms in the afternoon.

Get ready for the heat. While afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s, humidity will make it feel more like the upper 90s.

On Monday, expect much of the same, with highs in the upper 80s and heat index values nearing triple digits.

Dry air aloft will limit widespread rain.

Southeast winds will be slightly breezy, with gusts up to 25 mph. That onshore flow will continue to keep the rip current risk elevated.

Red flags will be flying through the weekend, making it especially important to swim only at guarded beaches.
