WESTON, Fla. — A Friday night lightning strike sparked a small fire at Sawgrass Recreation Park, which quickly grew to about a half-acre before being extinguished by a passing thunderstorm, according to a spokesperson for the park.
Park officials said two lightning strikes hit near the edge of a severe storm moving through the area.
The park is located at 1006 N. US Highway 27 in Weston.
At the time, there was no rain where the fire began, but roughly 30 minutes later, heavy rainfall moved in and put out the flames as the system rolled overhead, the spokesperson stated.
No injuries were reported.
