Typical August heat and humidity are in the forecast through the weekend, with a few cooling showers and storms rolling in Saturday afternoon. The best chance of storms will be between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., mainly in the western suburbs, so keep an eye to the sky this afternoon, especially west of Interstate 95.
Rain chances will hover around 40% each day through next week, which means there will be plenty of dry time as well. Highs will continue into the lower to middle 90s through next week, with “feels like” temperatures in the lower 100s each day. Stay hydrated and get into the shade — or even the air conditioning —as often as you can to avoid the effects of heat-related illnesses.
Although there are several weak systems we’re watching in the tropics right now, none of them pose an immediate threat to land at this time. A disturbance approaching Portugal and Spain might briefly become tropical, bringing wind and rain to the region by early next week.
