How to register with FEMA if you have property damage, losses following Hurricane Irma

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Those who have property damage or serious losses following Hurricane Irma are asked to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

You can register by going to DisasterAssistance.gov, downloading the FEMA app or by calling 800-621-3362.

FEMA officials said because of the large number of people who were affected by the storm, registering online is expected to be faster.

People who prefer a Spanish-language website can register online at DisasterAssistance.gov/es.

Applicants will need to provide the following:

  • Social Security Number;
  • Daytime telephone number;
  • Current mailing address and address and zip code of the damaged property; and
  • Private insurance information, if available.

After registering for federal assistance, people will be able to:

  • Look up your address to find out if it is in a disaster area declared for individual assistance.
  • Check the status of your application and get updates by SMS or email.
  • Upload documents to support your application.

Another option for people, including those who use 711 relay or VRS, is to call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) while those who use TTY can call 1-800-462-7585.

FEMA officials said the toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Applicants will receive a registration numbers, which should be written down and kept handy.

Anyone who does not have a registration number is not yet registered.
