Left with mess by Irma debris-removal crews? Here's what to do

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ā€“ Debris clean-up has been a long, arduous task in the weeks following Hurricane Irma, but the process has gone relatively smoothly and with few complaints.

But some South Florida homeowners feel debris crews left their yards in worse shape than when they arrived, leaving behind a mess that goes above and beyond what would normally be expected.

With so many crews contracted throughout Miami-Dade County, it should come as no surprise that the quality of debris removal would vary from neighborhood to neighborhood.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management says there is a process in place for those who feel specific crews did more harm than good, even though they had the best intentions.

Residents should report improper service or make a damage claim to 311. Once the resident receives a service request number, they are urged to contact the county's Risk Management division at 305-375-4280 to move forward with the process.
