MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Hurricane and Tropical Storm Irma continued to affect thousands of flights from coast to coast Monday. Authorities expect the airports in areas affected to reinstate services gradually.
During the mayhem to get out of the hurricane's way, airports in South Florida experienced a high demand. There was a police-involved shooting and passengers were forced to wait for hours during take off without air-conditioning due to a shortage of fuel.

Many stranded passengers couldn't find hotel rooms during the evacuations and were forced to sleep inside the Miami International Airport Sunday. Some of the people stranded included cruise ship passengers. They will also soon be heading home.
Miami-Dade Aviation spokesman Gren Chin said MIA and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will resume passenger and cargo flights Tuesday. Chin encourages passengers to contact their airlines directly to confirm their flights.
Miami Opa-locka Executive Airport and Miami Executive Airport were open Monday. The Miami Executive Airport's FAA tower was closed for damage assessment. The flights were operating with pilot-to-pilot communication.
The Miami-Homestead General Aviation Airport and Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport remained closed Monday.
