Sandbags run out at Doral Central Park due to delivery delays, supply shortage

More than 100 people lined up to receive sandbags Thursday

DORAL, Fla. – The city of Doral ran out of sandbags Thursday morning at Doral Central Park as a result of delivery delays and a supply shortage because of the overwhelming demand in the area.

More than 100 drivers lined up to receive sandbags that were given out in a joint effort by the city and Boy Scouts of America, but many had to be turned away when there were only 125 bags of sand left.

One woman told Local 10 News reporter Madeleine Wright that she spent five hours in line waiting for sandbags.

She was one of the lucky people to get sandbags to protect her home from potential flooding.

Doral residents are urged to sign up for alerts from the city and visit Doral's emergency preparedness website to receive tips on how to stay safe during a hurricane.

Residents can also subscribe to receive text message emergency alerts by texting the word DORALSTORMS to 888777.
