King Tide hits east coast through next week

National Weather Service issues coastal flood advisory

MIAMI – Atlantic high tides were set to impact areas of South Florida with a high propensity of flooding into early next week.

The cyclical alignment of the earth, moon and sun prompted a gravitation pull and the sea level rise known in Miami as the "King Tide."  Areas of Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Key West could be affected.

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory that will remain in effect through Saturday and Sunday. Swimmers need to beware of a high risk of rip currents through Sunday morning.

There was also a potential for wave run up to the base of already weakened dunes. The City of Miami issued a list of safety tips and the approximate times when the seal level rise will affect low lying areas along the Miami River.
