VEMDALEN, SWEDEN - The sun put on a spectacular show for skiers on a Swedish mountain on Monday.

A rare sun halo was spotted around the low winter sun as skiers rushed down the mountain in Vemdalen.

The halo, or corona, is officially called a 22° halo and is formed when sunlight is refracted by ice crystals in the sky.

According to the Daily Mail, the crystals are contained within high thin cirrus clouds that are about four miles high.

Unlike halos that form around the moon at certain times and are colorless, sun halos project a variety of colors.

In a video posted to Facebook, skiers can be seen taking a break from their runs to get a longer glimpse of the stunning sun.
