Wynwood apartment residents frustrated, fearful over lurker trying to enter units

Itā€™s been going on for weeks, residents say

WYNWOOD, Fla. ā€“ People living at WYND 27 and 28 in Wynwood say they have been living in fear because of a man lurking in the hallways.

Miami police confirmed they are working the case and believe the man may be responsible for a burglary on Monday in which cash and a purse were stolen.

Ring doorbell video from an apartment at the building, located at 127 NW 27th St., appears to show the man pulling on door handles.

ā€œHe goes up to the door, checks if itā€™s open, tries getting in,ā€ said resident Rodolfo Sanchez.

Resident Jesus Marcovivhi said the man walked in on his wife while she was cooking, posing as building security.

ā€œMy wife was like, ā€˜Who are you?ā€™ and he was like, ā€˜Didnā€™t you call security?ā€™ā€ Marcovivhi said.

The run-in was enough for the couple to look for a way out of their lease.

ā€œMy wife, most of the time, is home by herself so I said, ā€˜We need to move out of here,ā€™ā€ Marcovivhi said.

Sanchez said residents have gone from being fearful to getting angry.

ā€œThere was a lot of fear at first and then a lot of frustration with management,ā€ he said.

He said this has been going on for a couple of weeks, with some people reporting their personal belongings have been stolen.

The building management sent an email to residents about new safety measures, including a concierge. The email reads in part:

ā€œWe have arranged for formal patrol monitoring of the building seven days a week.ā€

Those patrols will happen in the overnight hours.

ā€œIt is nerve-wracking -- someone is walking around your building, trying to open your doors,ā€ said Sanchez.
