Miami Commission considers Ultra's 2nd weekend

Miami City Commission considers resolution on Ultra Music Festival's second weekend

MIAMI – The Miami City Commission is expected to vote on a resolution that could prevent the Ultra Music Festival from having a second weekend.

Ultra organizers previously announced they were holding the electronic music festival from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, and Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24.

But a resolution introduced Dec. 31 calls for a vote on denying the festival a second weekend, citing disruption to residents and businesses in the area. It takes away the Bayfront Park Management Trust's power to hold the festival for a second weekend.

Another resolution, which looks at Ultra's request to the Florida Department of Transportation to close the northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard from Chopin Plaza to NE 6th Street during the festival, will be discussed at Thursday's meeting.

A petition against the resolution had more than 7,000 supporters Wednesday afternoon.

A vote on the first resolution is expected sometime Thursday.
