MIAMI – James "Jimbo" Luznar, who ran Jimbo's Place in Virginia Key for decades, died of complications with Alzheimer's disease Wednesday. He was 89.
When the Maryland native left a small business that he established in 1954 to make way for the former Miami Herald building in the 1960s, he found refuge in Virginia Key.

Armed with what seemed like a never ending supply of cheap beer, fishing baits and smoked fish, Luznar developed a following.
For lovers of clandestine spots, Jimbo's Place was Miami's best kept secret. The adjacent area had a privileged view of downtown.
Graffiti writers liked to spray paint the abandoned wacky things he collected. And after it closed, Gramps, a bar in Miami's Wynwood, celebrated his last birthday.
"Jimbo. You're a SoFla legend," Lauren Hartog said on Twitter. "A cold beer will be had in your honor."
Friends and family will celebrate Luznar's life July 17 at Gramps in Wynwood.
