1 arrested after police chase

MIAMI – Miami-Dade police arrested a convicted felon recently released from prison who led officers on a chase.

The chase began Thursday afternoon at Northwest 3rd Avenue and 18th Street when robbery detectives attempted to stop a vehicle identified as one used during a robbery, police said. A Miami police officer crashed into a tree at U.S. 1 and Southwest 17th Avenue during the chase.

The chase ended at Southwest 23rd Avenue and 32nd Terrace, where the driver crashed into several vehicles. No injuries were reported.

"He jumped the fence right there," said Hirain Valle.

Valle heard the crash and ran outside to see what happened.

"So I was in the front at that time but he just disappeared in the house. The police came like three times and nothing happened," said Valle. "They looked for him in the house -- everywhere, everywhere."

Valle said the man was hiding under the covers of a bed inside his home. He was taken into custody without incident.

Charges against the driver are pending. His name wasn't immediately released.

According to MDPD RID supervisors, the suspect is being indicted by federal law enforcement officials and prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office.
