Motorcyclist dead, 2 others hurt after crash on Interstate 95

Christian Salazar, 24, pronounced dead at scene

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – One man died and two other people were taken to a hospital early Sunday morning after a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.

The crash involved two motorcycles and a beige Toyota Corolla in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Miami Gardens Drive just after 4 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two motorcyclists, Christian Salazar, 24, and Miriam Perez-Duarte, 21, were driving side by side when they collided and were thrown from their motorcycles.

The driver of the Corolla, Winnie Benjamin, 20, attempted to stop, but collided with the debris from the crash and ran over the right leg of one of the motorcyclists, troopers said.

Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene. Perez-Duarte was taken to Aventura Hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers said Benjamin was not injured.

The crash investigation stretched throughout the morning, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Salazar's sister created a GoFundMe account to help raise money for her brother's funeral costs.
