The Florida Highway Patrol identified two men killed when their Porsche crashed through a guardrail and into a canal off S.R. 836 on Friday morning.
About 1:35 a.m. just east of Northwest 42nd Avenue, Hector Cartagena lost control of the car, split the guardrail in half, then plunged into the canal, according to FHP. Troopers say the Porsche was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
"We just heard a loud bang and we went outside and we saw some water splashing," said Vinicio Marmolejos.
Miami Fire Rescue divers recovered the bodies of Cartagena, 34, and 26-year-old Wilmer Espana.
The eastbound lanes were closed for much of the morning. They have since reopened.
