2 found dead in submerged car believed to be missing couple

Alexandra Picon, Brandon Arana had been traveling in car pulled from water

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The bodies believed to be of a missing couple were found Thursday inside a submerged car in a southwest Miami-Dade County lake.

Miami-Dade police said the discovery was made Thursday morning at a canal near Southwest 268th Street and Southwest 107th Avenue.

Sky 10 was above the scene as the red car was being removed from the water.

Police said the red Toyota Corolla was the same car in which Alexandra Picon and Brandon Arana, both 21, were last seen early Sunday morning.

It appeared that the car crashed through a guardrail before ending up in the water. The crash site wasn't far from Arana's home.

Police said a medical examiner would have to positively identify the bodies.

"It hasn't been confirmed, but they're devastated," Susy Rivero Ayalo said of the Picon family.

Picon was meeting Arana for a drink after work Saturday night, but the couple never returned home.

Private investigator Joe Carrillo, who was working with the family and police, said a clue led investigators to the area.

"They were able to obtain late last night a cellphone hit on one of the phones in the car," Carrillo told Local 10 News.
