Crash leaves 2 hurt, worker trapped in bucket truck

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ One person was injured Tuesday night after a Florida Department ofĀ TransportationĀ bucket work truck was struck just south of the overpass near Red Road and Florida's Turnpike, officials said.Ā 

MiramarĀ Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade County firefighters arrived at the scene of the crash at about 10 p.m. and found a car on fire and partially wedged under the work truck, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez said.Ā

"One patient was trapped inside the vehicle that was on fire, and a second person was stuck inside the bucket of the work truck that was raised at least 20 (feet) in the air, " Benitez said in a media release. Ā Ā 

Crews were able to put out the fire and to extricate the person who was trapped inside the vehicle, Benitez said. The person was then airlifted to an area trauma hospital.Ā 

Meanwhile, a technical rescue unit was called to extricate the worker who was trapped inside in the bucket of the work truck.Ā 

That person was not injured and was retrieved by using a ladder truck, Benitez said. Ā 

Ā "This rescue effort was successful thanks to the well-coordinated efforts and mutual aid betweenĀ MiramarĀ Fire Rescue, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and (the Broward Sheriffā€™s Office), " Benitez said. "We continue to train together across county linesĀ Ā to ensure our lifeĀ rescue efforts are handledĀ seamlessly; in order toĀ yield the best results for our patients and keep our community safe."
