2 killed in Little Haiti drive-by shooting

Man, woman die after shooting outside home

MIAMI – A man and woman are dead after a drive-by shooting early Wednesday morning in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.

Miami police said Marquis Sams, 20, and Wilneka Pennyman, 19, were shot in front of a home, 151 NE 63rd St., about 1:30 a.m.

Sams was pronounced dead at the scene. Pennyman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

Officer Kenia Reyes said Sams was sitting in a Chevrolet Cavalier speaking with Pennyman, who was standing outside the car, when they were shot.

"We don't know if indeed the person behind the wheel was the actual target, but caught in the crossfire was a woman," Reyes told Local 10.

Reyes said Pennyman tried to run off, but she collapsed outside the home. Sams was found dead in the car.

Police were still searching for the shooter Wednesday afternoon.
