2 sought after woman robbed in wheelchair in Hialeah

Police try to ID man, woman who used victim's credit card at convenience store

HIALEAH, Fla. – Police in Hialeah are trying to identify a man and woman wanted in connection with the robbery of a woman in a motorized wheelchair earlier this month.

The robbery occurred near East Second Avenue and 44th Street on Oct. 3.

Hialeah police said the woman was violently pushed and pulled as she tried to hold on to her belongings before the man fled the scene.

"I felt a thump on my back," said Elsa Riesgo. "And the gentleman proceeded to try and grab my pocket book, pull on my wheelchair, pull on me."

Her caretaker said she heard the screaming, ran outside and saw the man get away in a red car.

Riesgo told Local 10 News that the couple withdrew more than $1,000 from an ATM using her credit card before she was able to contact the bank.

Police said the man and another woman were captured on surveillance video taking out the cash at a convenience store on Northwest 32nd Avenue.

Anyone who recognizes the man or woman is asked to call Hialeah police at 305-687-2525 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
