Teenage twin sisters shot inside North Miami home

Girls suffer non-life-threatening injuries

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Two teenage sisters were shot early Monday morning in North Miami.

The shooting was reported shortly before 3 a.m. near Northwest 122nd Street and Northwest 10th Avenue.

North Miami police said the 15-year-old twins were shot while inside the home. They were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami with non-life-threatening injuries.

Local 10 News spoke to one of the girls after she was released from the hospital. She said she didn't realize she had been shot at first.

"I just got up and I got shot in my legs," Miriam Joseph said. "I thought it was thunder, but when I saw my big sister, she told me I got shot in my legs."

Miriam said she was shot in the leg and foot, while her sister, Widline Joseph, was shot six times in the arm, shoulder and back.

A baby boy, who was born just two days ago, was asleep in the room at the time but was not injured.

Police said they are unsure whether the shooting was a drive-by, or if someone walked up to the home and fired.

Bullet holes were seen on the side of the home and on a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of the home.

Police said the home was also hit by gunfire last month. However, police said they don't believe the girls were targeted.

Detectives are still looking for the shooter.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
