A 2-year-old was pulled from a swimming pool in Coral Springs, but police said the boy had a pulse as he was taken to the hospital.
Coral Springs police said the near-drowning happened at 3175 NW 114th Lane.
Police at the scene told Local 10 that the boy's grandfather was watching the 2-year-old and the boy's 1-year-old cousin while his mother was at the hospital after giving birth to another child Thursday night.
The grandfather told police he turned away for a brief moment, didn't see the kids, looked back and spotted the 1-year-old by the partially open sliding glass door.
"At that point, he looked into the pool and saw the 2-year-old who was inside the safety gate, which was inside the pool and floating face down," Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said. "He immediately jumped into the pool and pulled the child out and began CPR."
The grandfather alerted a neighbor, who called 911.
Property records show that Jenna and Skylar Edwards live at the home.
Rescuers said the boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Friday night, authorities said rescue crews were able to stabilize the boy enough to transport him to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is listed in "very serious condition."
