3 Aventura Mall Food Court restaurants ordered shut

Live and dead roaches found at restaurants

AVENTURA, Fla. – State records show three restaurants inside the Aventura Mall Food Court were ordered shut last week due to a roach issue.

Meanwhile. the Hotel Astor on Miami Beach was ordered shut for the second time. Records show some of the violations found in the hotel were repeat violations.

Records indicate 28 violations were found at Havana 1957 on Lincoln Road.

Below is a list of places and some of their violations. All the places listed were allowed to re-open following ordered cleans and re-inspections.

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed approximately 12 in and around a container used for storing skewers in a prep area. This container was immediately taken outside. 1 on the wall behind the clean pan storage shelves in a food storage area. Approximately 20 inside and on a cooler stored on top of sacks of raw rice. Observed approximately 15-20 on the sacks of rice and the shelving they are stored on. Observed 4 on the door frame of an employee bathroom used for storage. 5 inside a box of packages of tea. 2 on a prep table with a table mixer on it. 1 inside a large pot on a shelf. 5 inside the oven on the cook's line. 1 on the wall near the pizza oven. 3 inside a bucket used to store clean utensils on the cook's line . 3 on a door frame at the entrance to the kitchen. Approximately 10 under a prep table top in the kitchen."

"Food with mold-like growth. See stop sale. Observed a gray mold-like substance in a pan of cooked meat in the walk-in cooler."

"Employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands - food was not being heated as a sole ingredient to 145 degrees F or immediately added to other ingredients to be cooked/heated to the minimum required temperature to allow bare hand contact. Establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure. Observed an employee prepping onions to be cooked at a later time and no wearing gloves. This employee put on gloves"

"Dead roaches on premises. Observed approximately 20-25 in all dry food storage areas. 1 in a container used to store clean food pan lids. 1 in a spider web on a shelf used to store clean pans. Observed an egg casing in a clean food pan. Observed another egg casing on the floor under a food storage shelf. Observed roach excremental covering the door frame of the employee bathroom used for equipment storage. 5 dead roaches on the same door frame. Roach excrement , a egg casing and a dead roach on a dough rolling machine."
