$30,000 worth of jewelry stolen from Kohl's in Homestead

Man threatened associate at gunpoint

HOMESTEAD, Fla. ā€“ Homestead police are searching for a thief who targeted a Kohl's department store at gunpoint Tuesday evening.

Police said a man approached the fine jewelry counter about 7:35 p.m. at the Kohl's in the 2400 block of Northeast 10th Court and told the associate he was looking for a gift for his wife.

The man then lifted his shirt and showed a silver firearm in his waistband, police said. The man then verbally threatened the associate and instructed the associate to fill a white plastic bag with jewelry.

The associate complied with the demands, police said, and placed about $30,000 worth of jewelry in the plastic bag.

The man fled the store following the incident.

The man is described as being about 6 feet tall, with a stocky build.

He was wearing an UnderArmour long-sleeve shirt and grey shorts with a black stripe on both sides, along with orange sneakers and a camo cap with "New Money" written on the front.

The Homestead Police Department is investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information to call 305-247-1535 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
