5 decapitated goats found in empty lot

MIAMI – A man found five decapitated goats in an empty lot while walking his dogs along Biscayne Bay near Miami Shores.

Alan Klopman made the discovery in an empty lot in the 10800 block of Bayshore Drive on Wednesday morning.

"I walked over here and looked down and I thought they were dogs initially," he said. "We've had bags of chickens with their heads cut off and other animals and when I've been doing research in zoology on Key Biscayne, I've actually stopped some of the sacrifices I've seen there."

In January, several decapitated chickens and a goat washed up behind The Floridian, a South Beach condominium on Biscayne Bay.

Klopman believes the animals were religious animal sacrifices, which is legal and protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Miami-Dade Animal Services is investigating.

Despite the discovery, Klopman said he's more worried about crime in the neighborhood.

"It's gotten to the point where there is so much crime taking place on these two abandoned lots that my wife is afraid to walk the dogs at night.
