7-year-old recovering after shooting kills 2 in Miami

Man involved in shooting had history of domestic violence, investigators say

MIAMI – A 7-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being injured in a shooting that left two people dead in Miami.

Miami police found Roberto Alfonso Jr., 55, Ivy Torres, 36, and a 7-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds at a home on Northwest Second Court.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, and Alfonso died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said Alfonso had a history of domestic violence, adding that three months before Saturday's shooting, Torres had been in court, where a judge issued a restraining order against Alfonso.

Police have determined that Torres was the 7-year-old's mother, but Alfonso was not the father.

It's unclear if Alfonso was living with Torres and her son.

The Department of Children and Families is reviewing the incident to determine who will take custody of the child after his mother's death.
