MIAMI – The 79th Street Causeway bridge was shut down Thursday afternoon right in the middle of rush-hour traffic.
Officials haven't confirmed why the bridge between North Bay Village and the city of Miami was closed, but it appeared to be stuck in the down position.

The bridge has since been reopened, but drivers were initially urged to use the Broad Causeway bridge to the north or the Julia Tuttle Causeway if they were traveling south.
Authorities allowed pedestrians to cross the bridge during the time it was closed to traffic.
