911 calls released after bus hit boy

Boy remains in critical condition

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. ā€“ The Broward Sheriff's Office on Monday released 911 calls made after a bus ran over a 14-year-old boy.

The Broward County bus hit the middle school student in the 1200 block of East Sample Road on Friday morning.

"Oh my God, oh my God," one woman told the 911 dispatcher. "Yes, there's a bus, number 34. It's going west on Federal Highway and it hit a little boy. You have to come."

The boy was listed in critical condition on Sunday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man and his family. We are saddened by this tragic incident," said Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry in a statement issued Friday afternoon. "The safety of passengers is a top priority for Broward County Transit."

Reinaldo Soto, the driver of the bus, was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, said Broward County Transit Division Director Tim Garling.

Soto has been a bus operator with Broward County Transit since February 2002.
