Arrest made in double stabbing

Joseph Swift accused of stabbing Jeneth Jones, Wade Jones

MIAMI – A man accused of fatally stabbing a woman and her son appeared in bond court.

Joseph Swift wore protective clothing, which indicates suicide watch, during his appearance Wednesday.

Swift, 29, is accused of stabbing Jeneth Jones, 58, and her son Wade, 23, to death Sunday. Police say he also stabbed 30-year-old Natasha Jones, his ex-girlfriend, and her 25-year-old sister Taree.

"Natasha has some questions about what was the outcome, but she's still in a kind of delicate state, so I didn't want to mention that to her," said Wade Jones, Jeneth Jones' husband and the father of the other three victims.

Jones said he's waited since Sunday for police to arrest Swift, who was named a suspect Monday.

"I feel much better. In fact, it's about the first time I can breath easy on it," he said.

According to court documents, police arrested Swift at an apartment near the crime scene.

While investigators were questioning him at police headquarters Tuesday, police say Swift tried jumping out of a second-story window, but the glass didn't break.

Police say Swift then attacked three officers in an unsuccessful attempt to get away.

Police records shows Swift also had a self-inflicted knife wound to his wrist.

Swift's attorney said his client has mental issues. The judge ordered he be held on no bond.

Swift is charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, escape, and resisting an officer with violence.

"I never want to see him on the street again," said Jones.
