Bear Cut Bridge lanes reconfigured

1 more eastbound lane to open on bridge connection Key Biscayne to Virginia Key

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Department of Public Works and Waste Management reconfigured the traffic lanes of the Bear Cut Bridge, which connects Key Biscayne to Virginia Key.

On Wednesday, a second eastbound lane will be opened on the bridge. When completed, there will be two eastbound lanes open to all traffic, and two westbound lanes open, one for all traffic and one for automobiles and motorcycles only.

The reconfiguration is expected to be completed by March 1. The reconfiguration work is scheduled to take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. seven days a week.

Bicyclists and pedestrians will be confined to the northernmost portion of the westbound side of the bridge.

Several lanes of the bridge were closed last month after the Florida Department of Transportation deemed the bridge "structurally deficient."
