Crews battle 25-acre fire

MIAMI ā€“ Firefighters worked into Monday morning to contain a brush fire that threatened six homes.

Forestry officials said the fire spread to 25 acres near Southwest 200th Street and 142nd Avenue.Ā

"The fire went all the way up the wall," said one homeowner who was evacuated.Ā

A cavalry of firefighters carried a thousand gallons of water to the site of the fire because there are no fire hydrants in the immediate area.Ā

"The stress of not having enough water and just the different changing winds that really hampered us," said Scott Peterich with the Forest Service.Ā

Firefighters had to be extra careful near one of the threatened homes because of propane tanks in a field. At least one them exploded in the fire, but no one was hurt.Ā

"I was very scared because my house is back there where all that smoke is. They won't let me go back there," said April Rosenik.

FPL crews cut power to the area after a power pole caught fire.Ā

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

No injuries have been reported.
