Cypress Pleads Guilty To DUI Manslaughter

2 Killed In Crash Near Miccosukee Reservation

MIAMI ā€“ The brother of the former chairman of the Miccosukee Tribe has pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI manslaughter.

The charges against Thomas Cypress stemmed from a February 2009 crash near the Miccosukee reservation that killed tourists Robert and Paulette Kirkpatrick.

Police said Cypress' blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash was three times the legal limit.

Under a plea deal reached with prosecutors, Cypress will be sentenced to 12 years in prison and must serve at least four years of the sentence. When he is released from prison, Cypress must then serve 10 years of probation.
