Fatal crash possibly connected to earlier accident

Police: Driver in fatal crash may have hit minivan

KENDALE LAKES, Fla. – Police say a man has been killed after an accident in Kendale Lakes on Saturday.

According to Miami-Dade PIO, the 27-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon near the intersection of SW 139th Avenue and Sunset Drive.

Police said a woman who caused a previous accident in the area of SW 147 Avenue and SW 72 Street was driving a blue VW Jetta. She may have hit a white or grey minivan in the area before taking off.

As she was getting away from the accident, police said she ended up hitting a second car, allegedly killing a man driving a black Honda.

"I heard the screech and the bang," said Mark Negy, recalling the accident. "I heard another bang and then I saw the tree move from my house. I saw the tree shaking."

Negy said it was at that point he rushed over. He said the female driver of the car crashed into the back of the Honda, sheering its bumper right off and causing the driver to catapult from his vehicle and crash into a tree.

"I went up to the car to see if I could help him, I could tell his eyes were wide open, he was deceased," said Negy. "He was dead right away as soon as he hit the tree."

Negy said he heard two impacts. Other witnesses told Local 10's Christina Vazquez they heard the same thing.

Miami-Dade police confirmed they believe the female driver who caused the crash hit a white or gray minivan at the intersection just beyond this crash before ramming into the Honda.

"She was pretty shaken up," said Negy. "She was very, very nervous and looked somewhat hysterical, but she didn't seem to have any visible injuries."

Police said the woman was injured and taken to the hospital.

Neighbors meanwhile continue to watch police investigate the accident in a state of disbelief.

"I'm thinking that could be me right now," said a witness. "That could happen to anybody. It's scary."

Anyone with information about the owner of the minivan is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
