Man steals $800 cameras from bike store

Thief takes Go Pro cameras from Big Wheel Cycles

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ A thief walked in to a high-end bicycle store in Hollywood but wasn't there to buy a new bike.

The theft happened at Big Wheel Cycles, located at 7035 Taft Street in Hollywood, about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Surveillance video showed a man enter the store and cut a security cable attached to two Go Pro cameras. He then looked around to see if any employee or customers noticed.

The cameras, which are water-proof and typically attached to a helmet of the user, are worth about $800.

"When we were passing the Go Pro cameras, we noticed the locks were on the ground," said Tony Chin, the owner of Big Wheel Cycles. "We said something is wrong. We looked and saw two were missing.

The thief then walked to another area of the store and waited a few seconds before grabbing the two cameras off the display and hiding behind a rack, video showed.

He then stuffed the cameras under his shirt and left the store.

"Up to now, I can't believe that he had enough nerve to come in and steal those cameras having that much people and security cameras on," said Chin.

Chin said his staff recognized the man, who previously tried selling them steaks out of the back of his truck.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-967-4357.
