Motorcyclist suffers spinal injury at Homestead-Miami Speedway

HOMESTEAD, Fla. ā€“ An accident at the Homestead-Miami Speedway sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

The victim was part of a motorcycle racing championship that had been underway all weekend on the track.

Paramedics, who are normally on site during races, assessed the person before calling for air rescue helicopter to transport the victim to Kendall Regional Medical Center, officials said.

According to paramedics, the victim was showing signs of paralysis and they feared the critically injured person could have suffered damage to the spinal cord.
The Motorcycle Road Racing Championship Cup series is a two day event that wrapped up Sunday at the speedway in Homestead. Dozens of divisions compete by racing motorcycles on the track throughout the weekend.

A promoter for the event declined to comment to Local 10.

The sport racing continued after the crash.
