The Florida Highway Patrol said Cypress was driving his Toyota Tundra west on Tamiami when his truck collided with a Chevrolet Cobalt. According to the crash report, the Tundra crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit the Cobalt head-on.

A retired couple from Maryland died in the crash.

Investigators said Cypress' blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the wreck.

Cypress' attorney, Roy Black, appeared in a Miami courtroom Friday to ask for bond for his client, but a judge denied the request.

Cypress remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
