Pedro Bravo indicted for first-degree murder

Teen charged in disappearance of UF student Christian Aguilar

GAINESVILLE ā€“ Pedro Bravo, the teen charged in the disappearance of his friend and University of Florida student Christian Aguilar, was indicted Monday by an Alachua County grand jury for first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Aguilar's family, wearing T-shirts that read "Help find Chris" on the back, was inside the courtroom when the indictments were read.

Aguilar, 18, was last seen in Gainesville on Sept. 20.Ā His body has not been found.

State Attorney Bill Cervone told The Gainesville Sun that even though Aguilar's body is still missing, there is strong evidence against Bravo.

"There will be a continuing effort to find him," Cervone said. "A kid his age does not fall off the face of the earth."

Aguilar and Bravo were friends from high school.Ā Both attended Doral Academy in South Florida.Ā The pair were last spotted at a Best Buy store.Ā 

According to Gainesville police, Bravo bought a shovel and duct tape several days before a fight he said he had with Aguilar. Bravo admitted to beating Aguilar unconscious and leaving him in a parking lot.

A massive search effort involving volunteers from Miami have been actively looking for Aguilar since his disappearance.
