Pembroke Pines hosts Relay for Life

Pembroke Pines holds 15th annual Relay for Life held Friday

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. ā€“ Pembroke Pines is hosting their 15th annual Relay for Life on Friday.

Local 10's Kristi Krueger is a co-chair for the event, which begins at 6 p.m. at Walter C. Young Middle School, 901 NW 129th Ave. Relay team will walk the for 18 hours.

"The first Relay held in 1999 raised $33,000 and that amount doubled the following year.Ā  By last year, our fourteenth, the Pembroke Pines Relay had raised over $2 million," said Frank C. Ortis Mayor of Pembroke Pines. We have one goal, to find a cure and we are raising the funds to make that goal is met."

Relays for Life benefit the American Cancer Society. Since its inception in 1985, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising more than $4 billion to fight cancer.
