Shooting victim going to State of the Union

Debbie Wasserman Schultz taking Megan Hobson to speech

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ A teenager injured in a drive-by shooting is going to Washington, D.C. for President Obama's State of the Union address.

Megan Hobson is accompanying U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to the address next Tuesday.

On April 17, 2012, Hobson was injured in a drive-by shooting when her sister's car was riddled with bullets.

"I was the only one of the four of us in the car that got shot," Hobson after she was released.

The bullet tore through Hobson's pelvis, nearly killing her.

"I actually went into shock on the table. I had to take 35 units of blood and platelets because I basically was bleeding out," said Hobson.

Hobson now counsels other youths recovering Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, where she was treated.

"This is the reason I stayed so I can help somebody else get through this hard time in their life," said Hobson.

Hobson wants to become a pediatric oncologist.
