Victim in fatal accident was pushing boat

Janette Africano was 35-years-old

MIAMI – Investigators are releasing new information in the boating accident in Miami that claimed the life of a woman.

Rescue crews pulled Janette Africano, 35, from Biscayne Bay near Watson Island Saturday. She later died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Local 10's Sasha Andrade reported the victim's brother, a police officer, spoke off-camera and said he and his parents are devastated.

According to investigators, Africano was trying to push an 18-foot boat away from a concrete piling underneath the MacArthur Causeway. The weather was rough and her significant other was steering the vessel, investigators said. Somehow, Africano ended up between the boat and the piling and was crushed.
