MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – One person was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting near Carol City Senior High School.
Cedric Admas, 18, faces charges of attempting to trespass on school property with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and displaying/using a firearm.
Police are still searching for others believed to be involved in the Wednesday shooting, including Stanley Ragin, 19, who was seen running away from the scene, police said.
According to an arrest report, Admas is a member of an Opa-locka gang called 2100.
Detectives said Admas was with a group of fellow gang members in a car when they got out of their car and approached another man who they believed was a rival gang member and whom Admas had gotten into two physical altercations with in the past.
A witness told police that Admas pulled out a handgun and fired it in the direction of the high school.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez said a window was shattered in the incident.
"I feel scared. It's crazy, you know, me going to school and just thinking that somebody's shooting," student Celine Ruiz said.
Sky 10 was above the scene at 3 p.m. Wednesday as several police cars were outside the school at 3301 Miami Gardens Drive. Paramedics were also seen entering the building with a gurney, but they brought it back out without anyone on it.
Gonzalez said no students were injured in the shooting, although Miami-Dade Schools Police Lt. Raul Correra said a boy somehow injured himself after hearing the shots and running off.
The student was treated for his injuries at the school.
According to Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, surveillance video captured the shooting on 183rd Street.
He said none of the people involved are students.
The shooting was reported a day before another shooting near Frances S. Tucker Elementary School in Coconut Grove. No injuries were reported in Thursday's shooting.
According to the report, Admas told detectives that he was at the school during dismissal, but denied allegations that he was involved in the shooting.
He was ordered to be held in jail on $12,000 bond Thursday.
Police said Ragin has a violent history and should be considered armed and dangerous. Police said he is also a known gang member and has active warrants for his arrest.
