Boat catches fire outside waterfront home in Pompano Beach

Man suffered second-degree burns after explosion, authorities say

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A boat caught fire Wednesday afternoon outside a waterfront home in Pompano Beach, leaving one person seriously injured.

Sky 10 was above the scene at 1008 NE 26th Ave. at 3:45 p.m. and saw firefighters spraying the boat with foam to extinguish the flames.

The boat, named Prime Time, was destroyed in the fire.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said there was an explosion on the 30-foot cabin cruiser and a 60-year-old man, who is a mechanic that was working on the boat, was injured.'

King said he was taken to Broward Health North with second-degree burns to his hands, face and torso. He was expected to be transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami due to the severity of his injuries.

The man was the only person onboard the boat when the explosion happened.

Authorities said the fire is believed to have come from the boat's engine.
