Body blocks traffic on Interstate 595

Motorcyclist strikes exit ramp wall, lands on highway below

DAVIE, Fla. – The westbound lanes of Interstate 595 reopened Wednesday afternoon, several hours after a motorcyclist's body blocked traffic on the highway.

The body -- identified as Berry Selph III, 24, of Plantation -- landed in the westbound express lanes near Florida's Turnpike in Davie.

Selph was traveling westbound on the I-595 exit ramp to the southbound Turnpike when the motorcycle failed to negotiate the curve and struck the concrete wall, ejecting him from the motorcycle and over the wall, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Selph fell 30 feet into the westbound lanes of I-595.

A 2013 Volkswagen Passat and a 1996 Kenworth tractor-trailer were traveling westbound on I-595 and struck Selph, according to the FHP.

Selph was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The FHP redirected traffic and opened a shoulder on I-595 to alleviate traffic backups.

Troopers said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
