Body found at Palm Aire Country Club canal in Pompano Beach

BSO says man's body badly decomposed

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A man's body was found in a Pompano Beach canal Monday morning.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said the body was found in a canal at the Palm Aire Country Club about 10:15 a.m.

Carter said South Florida Water Management District workers were conducting maintenance to the canal when they discovered the body. She said the body was pressed against a floating barricade just north of the pumping station.

BSO divers removed the body from the water.

Carter said it wasn't known how the long the body had been in the water, but the man couldn't be readily identifiable because of the decomposition.

Homicide detectives planned to use dental records, missing person reports and facial reconstruction to help identify the man.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
