Boy critical after falling from second-story window at Hialeah motel

Parents charged after narcotics found inside motel room with children

HIALEAH, Fla. ā€“ A 2-year-old boy remains in critical condition after police say he fell out of a second-story window of a motel and onto the ground below.

Hialeah police and rescue units responded to the El Paraiso Motel at 11:44 p.m. Friday.

The boy was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital by Hialeah Fire Rescue in critical condition.

Police said Hialeah detectives determined 26-year-old Luis Enrique Rodriguez, 27-year-old Jacqueline Sanchez, the child and also a 5-month-old boy had been staying in one of the motel rooms for the past two days.

Evidence of suspected narcotics (cocaine) and alcoholic beverages were discovered in the room, police said.

So far, police said both parents have been charged with one count each of child abuse/without great bodily harm, a third-degree felony. These charges are for the presence of narcotics in proximity of children, authorities said.

The investigation regarding the actual fall and injury of the child is ongoing.

Police said DCF agents took custody of the 5-month-old baby.

Both Rodriguez and Sanchez have since bonded out of jail.
